Abstract
Tim Cook (Cook), CEO of Apple Inc had declared that he is a Gay and his radical open statement was welcomed by Apple's Board of Directors, business partners and competitors. He wanted to redefine Apple as a company post-Steve Jobs era by ushering in openness and an inclusive workforce. Apple as a company would gain through Cook's radical openness and his promotion of diversity in the workplace. But, it also brought into focus the challenges faced by 'rank and file' LGBT workers in other industries who were not financially secure and not as powerful as Cook. LGBT workforce in conservative industries like finance and oil still found it difficult to come out of their closet. Even in the US, the existing laws did not protect them and were discriminated in their workplace. Would Cook's radical openness bring positive changes in terms of workplace equality and in managing diversity? Would other industries accommodate such a leadership in the workforce? Is inclusive workforce a myth or reality?
