Abstract
This is part of a case series. In 2010, Chile's Asociacion Chilena de Seguridad (ACHS), a workers' insurance non-profit corporation, was facing rising accident rates and falling financial returns. It was also facing a leadership crisis. ACHS's 87-year old founder, Eugenio Heiremans who had led the organization for its entire 52-year history, was suffering from a debilitating disease. Fernan Gazmuri, ACHS's newest board member, was chosen to find a successor who could at one and the same time reverse the organization's performance decline while maintaining its historical commitment to the safety and health of the Chilean worker. This case is part of the MIT Sloan free case collection (visit www.thecasecentre.org/mitsloanfreecases for more information on the collection).
