Abstract
The successful US high-tech corporation Redback Networks Inc acquired the Canadian firm Abatis Systems Inc. Both companies manufactured systems to enhance broadband access and Internet traffic. Abatis had a very limited product line, and faced the difficulties of competing against firms with a wider variety of systems. The takeover solved this challenge enabling Abatis to use Redback''s international distribution and marketing system.
