Abstract
The author describes the 'three gears of design' as practiced by the DesignWorks Lab, an initiative of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. She explains how the three gears - user understanding, concept visualization and strategic business design - can lead to broader integration of the needs of all stakeholders into the final solution, as well as greater clarity and alignment regarding an organization's vision.
