Abstract
On 20 April 2003, the Board of Sydney Water announced that it would take legal action against PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting (PwC) over a software project that Sydney Water had abandoned in late 2002 after paying PwC $29.4 million. In the aftermath of the problems at Sydney Water, and following orders from New South Wales (NSW) Treasurer Michael Egan to adopt a new set of guidelines for carrying out such projects, agencies and departments across the NSW government slowed their approvals of technology projects.
