Abstract
This chapter is excerpted from 'Project Management and Leadership Challenges, Volume III: Respecting Diversity, Building Team Meaningfulness, and Growing Into Leadership Roles'. Project management is an approach that emphasizes taking the right decision at the right time in the right manner to move in the right strategic direction. The diversity approach is helpful for creating an environment for creativity and innovation and provokes thought with the power of anticipation. Project implementation depends on a strong project team, discussed in Chapter Two, to manage the processes necessary for a strong team for self-propelling through challenges. High-performing team members connecting with organizational culture are unique and find a satisfactory level of meaningfulness out of the task assigned to them. Chapter Three dealt with the challenges of connecting and meaningfulness. Leadership role in project management is inevitable for successful advancements and creation of an environment to work together, compensating individual shortcomings, supporting each other, and reaching a desired end result effectively and efficiently. You learned the basic differences between the focus of a manager and that of a leader where a project manager needs to learn the leadership skills to move to the leadership role and manage the human side of challenges in a project. You also learned how to develop trust in the workplace in Chapter Four. A model proposed for managers to grow to the leadership role was discussed in Chapter Five. Leadership skills are mandatory for each team member along with the project manager to become a high performer in a team. Chapter Six dealt with leadership enablers at the personal level. What you need to focus on for the development of personality and capability to withstand the challenges? The chapter also focused on leadership enablers that provide the breeding grounds for development of leadership.
