Abstract
The global football icon George Weah (Weah) spent his childhood in the slums of Clara town, Monrovia - the capital of Liberia (Africa). He was discovered and mentored by French football Manager and former player Arsene Wenger who introduced him to the world of European football. He played for the greatest European soccer clubs winning laurels through a spell of 13 years to become a top European football player. His astronomical success made him the only African to win football's highest award - the Ballon d'Or. Subsequently, he was also associated with the UN and UNICEF as Goodwill Ambassador. He blazed a path of accomplishments from poverty to become the President of Liberia, serving as a beacon of inspiration for his countrymen. Weah had a temperament of focusing on excellence in whatever he did which enabled him to become the greatest African footballer. Responding positively to the scepticism on his lack of formal education, Weah attained educational qualifications up to post graduation. Critics had also highlighted his lack of political experience, yet he had about three years as a Senator. Weah's major challenges comprised educational reforms; provision of health services, poverty alleviation and eradicating corruption. His declared mission was to transform and rebuild the lives of all Liberians. Would his 'never-say-die attitude' of his football playing career enable him to succeed in leading Liberia to socio-economic prosperity?
