Abstract
With cloud technologies radically impacting the way of running businesses by the telecom operators, the latter had been quite active in offering cloud-based options besides using such platforms to boost their own operations. Telecom service providers were believed to be benefited by the cloud in several ways. With cloud opportunity emerging in the telecom space, telecom players could offer nearly everything as-a-service to pull the benefits of cloud technology besides providing business value to customers. In the meanwhile, after disrupting the telecom sphere with Jio, the Reliance Industries Limited was planning to intensify the battle with its rival Bharti Airtel (Airtel). Experts had foreseen some reasons why some of the moves from Reliance could hurt Airtel. But while Reliance had its JioCloud to grab space in the cloud sphere, Nxtra Data, a subsidiary of Airtel had got the nod from the government for such services. In June 2018, the two telecom rivals were out to pitch against one another to grab a bigger share of the cloud services market. While trying to expand their respective enterprise base, both the companies had built infrastructure to endow themselves with cloud services. For both the companies, such move was beyond their mainstay into a market worth billions of dollars as part of their strategy to search options towards diversification of revenue streams. But experts cautioned that it was not going to be quite easy as other biggies were also there in the fray. In such a scenario, who would ultimately emerge triumphant?
