Abstract

This case talks about the significance of employee-employer relationship. The case throws light on how a best performer may also lose interest in his work. Mr Sumit joined Modern Business School in the Placement Department. He gradually became star performer. Although he had his issues with the management regarding his leave and late coming, he never let it influence his work. It was in the second year of his relationship with the School that he had to avail long leave to take care of his ailing father-in-law. Although it was the peak season for placements at the School, the management allowed him to be with his ailing father-in-law, on humanitarian ground. However, the management got worried when they did not hear from Sumit for a long time. To their utter surprise, they discovered that the work of placements, which he claimed was in place, had not been started properly. The management of Modern Business School got another jolt when Sumit announced his resignation. It seems, intention of Sumit to quit the job was brewing already. Unfortunately, the top bosses failed to look at the symptoms a bit closely.
