Abstract

The financial director responsible for the Eastern European division of the European car manufacturer Roda, had to determine how best to finance the company''s relatively young Polish operations. Roda manufactured and sold cars in North America, Asia and Western Europe, but its Polish subsidiary was its first in Eastern Europe. The financial director had decided to pursue an innovative financing strategy, a promissory note, proposed by CS First Boston. However, he realized that there was a possibility that the National Bank of Poland would not approve the new financing vehicle before mid-July, 1995. Should that be the case, he would have to reassess his alternatives.
