Abstract
Cuba was known to the rest of the world for the legendary rule of the Castro family over a substantial period of time. Fidel Castro (the Castro patriarch) was seen by critics and admirers in different perspectives. His followers looked up to him as a futurist who fought against the growing supremacy of the US over Latin American nations and also established proper education and healthcare facilities for the needy Cubans and was also credited of spear heading Cuba's revolution of 1959. But experts agreed that Fidel Castro was also regarded for building a political legacy, which also adhered to authoritarianism not just against rivals but also in order to strengthen his rule. The Castro government did not shy away in using government oriented services like administration and police in order to shun away political rivals. Over the years, despite the strong Castro government, the Cuban economy faced numerous financial woes. The economy struggled hard to prosper in the absence of any private business opportunities, which were forbidden in the Castro Empire. But unfortunately, the Castro rule ended with the sad demise of Fidel Castro in November 2016. Raul Castro, who was the next President of the country, also stepped down from his office in 2018. Eventually, Miguel Diaz-Canel was appointed as the new President of the island nation. But the larger debate was how would Cuba fare under a Castro-less governance, which was an inevitable part of the country since so many years?
