Abstract
This case provides participants with an understanding of Shenzhen's 40 years of economic transformation from a sleepy village to a bustling powerhouse of innovation. Through class discussions, participants should (1) appreciate Porter's Diamond Theory as a strategy analysis tool to understand the underpinning drivers for economic growth via four interrelated factors (firm strategy, structure and rivalry; related supporting industries; demand conditions; and factor conditions (2) understand the important role and commitment of the Chinese government in setting and articulating economic direction; attracting talent; providing physical infrastructure; making policy adjustments; and building a presence on the global platform.
