Abstract

In 2012, brothers Paul and Rob Forkan began designing flip flops from their bedroom under the brand name Gandys. Their goal was to use the profits to open homes for underprivileged children across the world. This was in memory of their parents, who were killed in the Boxing Day Tsunami in Sri Lanka in 2004. In 2018, several London stores and two children's homes later, the Gandys brand was well on the way to developing a global footprint with the help of strategic collaborations with John Lewis, McLaren, Liberty and Rolling Stone, and the Royal seal of approval. The Orphans for Orphans initiative supported by the Gandys Foundation was created as a platform for the brothers to combine their passion for travelling and volunteering and to use 'fashion as a force for good'. Meanwhile, Gandys had also become a brand which carried full fashion and accessories lines including jackets, shirts, shorts and bags. The ultimate goal of the Forkan brothers was to have projects all over the world, on every continent, with people wearing their products and knowing what the Gandys brand stands for in every country. Would this dream come true for the socially conscious brand Gandys as well as the Forkan brothers?
