Abstract
BigBasket at first began its tasks and embraced the 'Just In Time Model' - wherein unpreserved as well as preserved items were brought against an order. Basically, they were purchased-to-order. In this model, the conveyance man straightforwardly grabs the item from the retailer, and specifically conveys it to the client at their convenience. As the time passed, they continued to an 'inventory model based on consumer demand' for the majority of their items, and BigBasket presently purchases items specifically from providers like HUL, P&G, farmers, factories, and so forth and after that stocks these items in their stockrooms. Also, for revenue generation, BigBasket adds a little edge to the cost of the item before distributing them. Big Basket faces the challenges of meeting daily consumer demand with its purchase to order stocked items. 'Indian consumers and logistics are very different from that of the US. In India without your own inventory or assured availability under your control, there is always a challenge of fulfillment and customer satisfaction as we have seen in true marketplace models versus warehoused models,' (Ganesh, co-founder BigBasket).
