Abstract

This is a Serbian version. The case describes the career progress of a young, talented and hardworking engineering student Priya at her first job. After making a highly positive impression on her seniors as being an efficient and effective performer she was promoted to the position of a team leader in a very short span of time. After the promotion things suddenly changed for Priya, her team members no longer co-operated with her and started making nasty comments behind her back. This affected Priya and the star performer suddenly lost all her motivation to work and was reduced to an average performer, leaving behind a lot of question marks regarding her capabilities, both in the minds of her colleagues as well as her seniors. At a juncture like this when Priya is demotivated and hurt by the behaviour of her team members and seniors she receives an offer from another competitor organization. Now Priya is in dilemma as to whether she should take up the offer or to stay with the existing organization with which she is working. The case looks at several issues related to organizational behaviour such as halo effect, leadership skills, motivation, perception, psychological contract and employee and engagement value proposition. The case may be used with students, executives or trainers to provide insights into the following: Interpersonal relationships in an organization and its impact on performance of an individual; To highlight the issues related to motivation and perception; To emphasize the relevance of a psychological contract being adhered to in an organization.
