Abstract

Japan was the first country to introduce robotics in the hospitality, travel and tourism industries. Robots Artificial Intelligence and Service Automation (RAISA) was adopted by Henn na Hotels (Henn na), a group of low-cost hotels, during its inception in Japan in 2015. 'RAISA' included chatbots, delivery bots, robot-concierge, conveyer restaurants, self-service information/check-in/check-out kiosk, and many others. The deployment of Artificial Intelligence based robots in the hospitality industry led to the creation of a unique environment which provided a sense of excitement to the consumers. This innovation allowed the business to reduce its staff expenses while also increasing its profit in a country where the working population was slowly shrinking. Henn na was recognised by 'The Guinness World Records' as the world's first robot hotel. Would Henn na disrupt the hospitality industry and set a trend for replacing the actual human workforce with robots?
