Abstract

This case looks at the business model of Netflix in India in the context of other over-the-top (OTT) video streaming services in the country. It has been a successful company and the way it was able to beat its competitor, Blockbuster, in the US market is legendary. The going in the Indian market is however not easy, given the stiff competition it faces from other online video-streaming entertainment services such as Amazon Prime and Hot Star. The pricing strategy is a key factor which affects the sustainability of the business model. The case makes the students explore pricing as well as other possible strategies to alter key components of its business model in India such as its customer value proposition, whereby it can provide a source of differentiation vis-a-vis the competitors.
