Abstract

Conflict is opposition, disagreement or discord within and among organizations. Conflict is generated when actions of any one channel member comes in the way of the system achieving its objectives. Conflict can arise out of competing goals, differing perceptions of reality or domain controls. Although conflicts are perceived as negative, they can also be constructively used to review past actions, serve as an outlet for grievances, plug existing loopholes in the system, besides creating templates for dealing with future conflict situations. This case deals with such a situation whose genesis lay in a simple business 'understanding' reached between two parties. At that point, it seemed like the perfect solution, but what materialized subsequently, had the potential to flare up into a bitter and ugly fight, one which no one would win! The case will go into the various causes and sources of conflict and also how it could be resolved.
