Abstract

In August 2020, the search giant Google struck a deal with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India to impart blended learning to the country's students with a combination of classroom and online learning. There were a lot of promises both by the search giant and CBSE that spoke of mutual benefit. However, Google was not the only tech major to partner with CBSE to push India's education sector. Its rival Facebook had also inked a similar deal with CBSE shortly before. In both the cases, CBSE or the Indian government for that matter was also upbeat about the win-win outcomes despite some genuine digital divide in the student community. Could Google overpower the likes of Facebook in its alliance with CBSE to reshape India's education scenario? Could it thrive with its venture even amidst a digital divide?
