Abstract

Near the end of 2006, FreshDirect, a New York City-based online fresh food manufacturing and delivery service, fulfilled its 5th million order. Many observers pointed to FreshDirect as one of the few examples that when applied correctly, online food delivery could be successful. The company was serving 250,000 customers having revenues of approximately USD200 million and with undisclosed profits for two years running.
