Abstract

Eau du Grand Lyon (EGL) is a fully owned subsidiary of Veolia, responsible for water distribution services for the greater Lyon area in France. In 2015, the company won a bid to serve the Lyon community by orchestrating an ecosystem of partnerships consisting of business and non-for profit organizations. EGL created an ecosystem by collaborating with community and economic players throughout the Lyon area. Indeed, EGL became a stellar model for the entire Veolia group to emulate. EGL succeeded in balancing a company's need to make a profit while contributing to the greater good of an entire community, in other words, a hybrid organization. The case analyzes the hybrid organization with a dual performance objective financial performance as well as social and economic benefits to the community it serves. After analyzing the case study, participants will be able to assess the company's actions in organizing and developing an ecosystem of associations, non-governmental organizations, training sites and subcontractors that create a win-win situation for all parties concerned.
