Abstract
Cognizant, one of the leading IT companies headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, had made a number of acquisitions, mainly to enhance its digital capabilities, expand into new geographies and to achieve top-line growth. In June 2021, Cognizant acquired ESG Mobility, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik- GmbH (ESG). ESG Mobility was a digital automotive engineering R&D provider for connected, autonomous and electric vehicles. The acquisition was expected to expand Cognizant's automotive engineering capabilities in the connected vehicles vertical. With the global connected car market estimated to reach more than USD225 billion by 2027, the segment offered a huge opportunity for technology companies. How would Cognizant benefit through the acquisition? How would its Connected Mobility vertical be strengthened?
