Abstract

This is part of a case series. Case (B) in the Fatima Akilu series details how the protagonist, after losing her position as Director for Behavioural Analysis and Strategy at Nigeria's Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), resolves to put her skills and experience to best use by founding her own counter-extremism organisation, Neem, and an education programme for around 5,000 children, most of whom have come out of Boko Haram captivity. The case illustrates that there are many different leadership styles, and cautions against trying to be overly prescriptive about 'the right' leadership approaches and methods.
