Abstract

Ms Gayatri Jolly, the CEO and founder of MasterG and Daughters, a Delhi-based all-women design and skill development social organisation, defied the social norm of appointing only a male as the pattern master in garment construction - a responsible position that steered the way forward in garment construction. There was a paucity of accessible design education as well as skill-oriented training in this discipline. MasterG intended to address this gap by using its worldwide quality pedagogy and curriculum to reach out to the women who live in underserved areas. She worried the long-term viability of her business concept in 2019. The dilemma was how to continue serving the low-income population while being profitable. The financial statistics made Jolly ponder how he might make money while staying true to his aim of becoming an ethical organisation. Jolly was considering whether MasterG should offer its garment manufacturing training services as an open market training institute, charging full rates. She hoped to turn this training into a platform on which she could open a lot of centers and expand.
