Abstract

Fabindia is among India's biggest private platforms for offerings that are produced through traditional skills and technique with the finest fibers. The founder of Fabindia John Bissell started Fabindia in the year 1960 when he had to come to India because he was awarded a two-year grant by the Ford Foundation to provide expert advice the Central Cottage Industries Corporation. Fabindia initially offered the best home linen/apparels and eventually, expanded into organic food, stationery, personal care products, jewelry, furniture and ethnic lifestyle products such as home accessories, home furnishings and ceramics. This case discusses the format management issues faced by Fabindia related to high sunk cost and high infrastructure cost. This case also discusses promotion plan for Fabindia taking into consideration the cost analysis in terms of the keywords search recognition analysis and physical promotion.
