Abstract

This case is a 'role play' in which learners are required to explore the financial ratios of companies and implement a cross-sectional comparison to assess the characteristics and the financial situation (risk, return, market) of the companies. Students have access to the WRDS platform for data extraction, together with MS Excel and Tableau as visualization tools. We present the case as a form of an email sent by the manager (the instructor). The email presents a task (or set of tasks) to help the manager to answer a request from clients related to the comparison of a set of firms regarding financial ratios. Instructors who apply the case allow students to work independently on the case and have access to the online sources/learning material as well as other supplementary solutions. The learners can receive continuous feedback from the instructor who provides continuous recommendations and coaching throughout the case session.
