Abstract
The case addresses the issue of the transformation of co-operatives, from traditional co-operatives to new generation co-operatives (NGC's) and running them successfully in a globally competitive environment. To understand the intricacies of the trade, an attempt to make an in-depth analysis of Amul India was made. Amul India, which has excelled as a brand and has a sales turnover of INR24,567 million (2003), has become a household brand. The success of Amul is because of the hardships of Dr V Kurien who is known as the 'Milkman of India'. Dr Kurien is not only a role model to the industry, but he has also worked hard for the social as well as the professional upliftment of rural masses. A brief study of his efforts has highlighted the finer areas of strengths, which can lead to the success of any business organisation in India or abroad.
