Abstract

Some of the points which have been discussed in this note are: (1) how the global village affects human resource management (HRM) practices; how technology is changing HRM; (2) identifying the significant changes that have occurred in the composition of the work force; (3) explaining the implications for HRM of the changing work force composition; (4) how changing skill requirements affect human resource management; (5) why modern organisations are showing more interest in quality and continuous improvements; (6) contrasting work process engineering and continuous improvements and discussing its HRM implications; (7) who makes up the contingent work force and its HRM implications; (8) why work sites may be decentralised; and (9) what their implications are for HRM and defining high involvement management and understanding its critical components. Various examples and case studies from the real life have been taken into account to further enrich the learning experience of the reader.
