Abstract
This case is a set of five vignettes describing career shocks experienced by managers. The stories behind the vignettes were presented by respective protagonists to an executive coach after experiencing or anticipating an externally caused disruptive career event. They can be used to discuss the topic of career shocks or as exercises in executive coaching or career counseling. The vignettes can also be used to discuss the affective events theory. This case is suitable for courses on careers, organizational behavior, and executive coaching.
