Abstract
By the year 2030, globally more than 1.4 billion people would be 60 years old or above. In such a scenario, one of the major challenges would be the provision of old-age care facilities. Shortages of staff and major fund cuts were already choking the existing system in most of the countries. Nonetheless, Buurtzorg, a social enterprise based in the Netherlands, had offered a plausible alternative in the form of home-based care facilities. Buurtzorg's Onion model relied on collaborative and non-hierarchical teams that placed 'humanity over bureaucracy' to take care of older people. In the management world, Buurtzorg was identified as a 'teal organisation', standing for self-management, wholeness, and evolutionary purpose. Buurtzorg had created much hope among the academicians and even among the patients and practitioners within the country. But would other countries with similar crises be able to replicate this model?
