Abstract
This case serves as a vehicle to introduce the principles of international portfolio diversification in the context of a specific investor situation, ie a defined benefit, supplementary pension fund for civil servants in Thailand. The case is also useful for introducing various pension arrangements and their implications. Additionally, the case can be used as a vehicle for addressing the issue of building capital market institutions in emerging markets, including the operational and political challenges. It also addresses the Asian financial crisis and the impact on the financial markets in Thailand. This case was sponsored by the Indiana University CIBER Case Collection.
