Abstract
The popular US-based pizza chain Papa Johns had global expansion plans and it considered India to be an important market due to its size, growing middle-class aspirations, and rising incomes. Previously, Papa Johns attempted to establish its business in India in 2011, but in 2017, the company closed its restaurants as it could not stand up to the competition. Papa Johns was planning to make a comeback to India. To expand its business in India, Papa Johns partnered with PJP Investments Group based at UAE. The company planned to open 650 outlets in India by the year 2033. It planned to open its first stores in southern cities in India. The first outlet would be opened in Bengaluru in 2024. In addition to this, the company had plans to expand into other regions of the country in the future. Would Papa Johns be successful in its second innings in India? What are the likely opportunities and challenges it would face? Would it be able to challenge the established players in the industry like Domino's and Pizza Hut?
