Abstract

This case describes a situation that many students ponder the idea to start their own business face at some point: should they continue studying or should they go ahead with their own start-up project when the opportunity arises? The young man described in this teaching case faces three options: continuing with his start-up project, signing up for a master program in entrepreneurship or starting a career as an employee in a start-up. His past experience with failed start-ups suggests that he needs more skills to be able to run his own start-up. At the same time, he might have learned from previous failures so that he would be able to successfully continue his own start-up project now. Alternatively, he could gather skills and experience by joining a start-up. Mikael, our young entrepreneur, finds himself at a crossroad and needs to take an important decision.
