Abstract

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange were two of the biggest stock exchanges in the US. The establishment of the Eurex, a technologically superior exchange in Chicago in early 2004, threw a challenge before the two traditional Chicago exchanges. The case study stimulates a discussion on the challenges that the two Chicago exchanges face and the competitive strategies adopted by the CBOT to remain as a dominant stock exchange in the US.
