Abstract
Under Mahatir Mohammad, Malaysia grew into a formidable South East Asia economy within 46 years of its independence. In spite of its small size and limited resources it became one of the most suitable places for investment in the world. As the prime minister of Malaysia for 22 years, Dr Mahatir had to deal with many crises on the economic frontier. This case addresses the issues related to Dr Mahatir''s policies to control the Malaysian economy during his term in office and also how he steered Malaysia through the Asian financial crisis of 1998.
