Abstract
In this case study, Bob, a senior engineer, and a hardcore Oil & Gas (O&G) fan, meets his former colleague Kiran who is deeply committed to Renewables Energies (RE). After they visit Expo 2020 in Dubai, they plan to visit TotalEnergies' Solar park in Qatar. On the way, they discuss the past, present, and future of O&G Majors and their diversification into RE - wondering if this is a strategic move or mere greenwashing. This situation case explores the dilemma of O&G majors' entry into RE. Do the O&G companies have the competencies to get into renewables? What are the synergies? Or is this shift purely from the pressure of the Paris Agreement and the shareholders? The laws in different countries vary, leaving loopholes for the O&G companies to compromise on their commitment to the environment. What does this move into RE and the change in name and logo mean for TotalEnergies?
