Abstract

Since the 1990s, the US has been witnessing a declining trend in the production of business doctorates that totalled only 1,071 in 1999-2000. With 40% of the doctorates heading straight for the corporates, the US business schools are running short of qualified doctoral faculty. This case study highlights this declining trend and enumerates the reasons for and the implications of this trend.
