Abstract
The alarming growth of spam threatened the viability of e-mail services. On average, 30% of the e-mails processed by Internet service providers were spams. By blocking sites and jamming servers, spam was playing havoc with the global business. This case study traces the emergence of spam, and enumerates the measures taken by software firms and the governments, through legislation, to curb it.
