Abstract

Chapter 4 delves into the impact of the #MeToo movement. It underscores that this movement confronts not only men who actively oppose women in the workplace but also those who exhibit apathy toward the issue. There can be no forward progress if men do not acknowledge their part in perpetuating the systemic barriers women face and actively aid in deconstructing these barriers. Men must recognize that they also benefit from the breakdown of these gender norms; it's not a zero-sum equation. This is one of the main reasons some men do not associate themselves with feminism and hesitate to disrupt the status quo. To many, society has left them feeling like a woman's gain is their loss. Sometimes they are held back by a lack of awareness, unsure how to involve themselves without overshadowing the voices of women, or they are uncertain about stepping outside their traditional gender roles to offer support. Various organizations are beginning to address these social and structural barriers, but the participation and support of men in the workforce is crucial to their success. This chapter is excerpted from 'Glass Half-Broken Shattering the Barriers That Still Hold Women Back at Work’.
