Abstract
Stockton Rush (Rush), CEO and Co-founder of OceanGate, was an adventure seeker known for his recklessness. He often undermined the safety regulations and found them to be illogical and this attitude underpinned his decision-making. His disregard for safety measures resulted in the implosion of OceanGate's submersible vessel Titan and the death of its five occupants including Rush. Despite numerous prophetic warnings from industry leaders and colleagues, his irrational decision-making resulted in a tragedy which could have been easily prevented. Will this tragedy caused by Rush's Icarian dreams offer an imperative lesson for deep-sea tourism management? What measures should the nascent extreme tourism industry put in place to avoid such disasters in future?
