Abstract
Founded in 1853, Levi Strauss & Co (Levi's) was one of the largest brand-name apparel companies across the globe. Over the years, Levi's had addressed the pressing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues for its business, industry, and communities. With sustainability initiatives, Levi's aimed to focus on transparency and accelerate the circular economy ecosystem. By integrating sustainable innovation in mainline and premium products, Levi's intended to develop a comprehensive plan by 2026 and make them circular ready. The company also came up with a net-zero goal-setting process with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Despite of various efforts, the company faced several challenges like the existing financial and seasonal structure of the industry that prevented them from making long standing commitments in the area of sustainability. However, Levi's strived to improve the design practices and conserve environmental resources. Amidst this scenario, it remained to be seen whether Levi's would be able to contribute to circularity and meet its sustainability ambitions in the coming years.
