Abstract

In a complex world, companies need to navigate numerous types of pressures, leading them to sometimes make strategic decisions that result in negative consequences. In this case, the students are introduced to a number of short cases of companies with questionable strategies according to CSR objectives. The case is presented as a role play, and different groups of students will argue for and against the given strategies. Students are encouraged to find and gain insight into the variables that structure the debate. The case study has been written so as to create a greater understanding of why companies make certain strategic choices, which creates a better understanding of today's world. It should also allow students to develop debating skills, present and defend alternative strategies, with an overall aim of gaining a broader understanding of both sides of the story. The case has been written not to criticize the presented companies but rather to create a better understanding of the arguments behind any strategy.
