Abstract

In 2023, the proposal for the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) emerged, aiming to establish a connectivity route between India and European Union nations through the Middle East. This involved collaboration with countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the US, to achieve benefits like reduced logistics costs, improved delivery times, and addressing the energy crisis. Positioned as an alternative to the Suez Canal, IMEC also aimed to counter China's Belt and Road Initiative. However, several challenges, including substantial investments, geopolitical complexities in the Middle East, and increased conflict risks among corridor members, were anticipated. In such a scenario the question persists whether IMEC would be able to solve the trade and geo-political issues in the region or would it succumb to regional pressures? Could the IMEC effectively address the energy crisis in participating countries and serve as a conduit for green energy transfer?
