Abstract

BluSmart Mobility (BluSmart), the electric and sustainable urban mobility company, launched its services in some of the prime areas of Delhi, Bengaluru and Gurugram in India. The Indian ride hailing market was a duopoly dominated by home grown Ola Cabs (Ola) and global player Uber Technologies Inc (Uber) which offered two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler rides to customers pan India. BluSmart challenged the supremacy of Uber and Ola with its innovative full-stack model and an all-electric taxi fleet. The startup made an aggressive bid to lure disgruntled passengers and drivers from the incumbents. Would BluSmart, the David, be able to overcome the Goliaths in the nascent Indian market which was plagued by challenges such as high procurement cost of EVs, limited range of EVs available, and inadequate charging infrastructure? Would the founders be able to build on their first mover advantage and deliver on the brand promise of zero ride denials, on time service and clean mobility?
