Abstract

Sustainability was a key trend among toy makers during the 21st century. Small and big companies aimed to manufacture environmentally friendly toys to reduce the harmful impacts on the environment. Hasbro Inc (Hasbro), the world's leading toy and game maker, also announced improving its green credentials to reduce its carbon footprint. To further reduce its environmental impact in favour of a lower carbon economy, it joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This commitment added industry-leading initiatives, including plastic-free designs in the entire package lines, the Toy Recycling program (in 11 countries), etc, to the company's ongoing sustainability journey. Hasbro also intended to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 47.5% and Scope 3 by 42% by 2030. However, the global toymaker remained uncertain if the efforts undertaken by the company would be sufficient to ensure the sustainability of its operations. It was also unclear if Hasbro was genuinely concerned with sustainability or if it was simply a 'greenwashing' effort.
