Abstract
McDonald's Corporation (McDonald's), one of the world's largest fast-food chains and one of the most recognised brands, was known for its hamburgers, sandwiches, and beverages. But the fast-food chain, one of the leading employers in the UK, came in for huge criticism for its work culture. In 2023, a BBC investigation report revealed distressing details about the work environment at McDonald's outlets in the UK. Behind the counters of its UK outlets, young women employees were facing a hostile environment with a pattern of sexual harassment, sexual assault, racism, and bullying. Despite the victims raising their concerns with management, no action was taken immediately. McDonald's has been facing sexual harassment allegations in the US and the UK even as early as 2016. But the measures taken by the company since then were not sufficient to avert the situation it faced in 2023. What strategies should McDonald's adopt to handle this sticky situation and toxic culture under its famed golden arches?
