Abstract
The country manager of First Technologies, an Indian software firm, is concerned about the progress of one of her product development teams. She observes that the director is not delegating effectively and therefore the morale of the team is getting adversely affected. The situation had arisen primarily because of the programme managers inability in handling group decision-making issues, she had to resort to inviting the director to attend functional meetings. This case is an illustration to the fact that working together is not a mechanical exercise; rather it is a process that needs to be managed consciously. It is often seen that brilliant individuals when it comes to working together fail to appreciate the inter-personal issues which may lead to serious consequences, such as perception of incompatibility, inter-personal conflicts, apathy among the team members, and lack of involvement or commitment among the team members.
