Abstract

This case discusses the communication and knowledge transfer between and within divisions in a large company in the field of electronics and electrical engineering (Siemens Netherlands). Formal as well as informal communication can both contribute to knowledge transfer, and individuals can play different roles in each. It indicates the problems faced, and invites discussion about the reasons of these problems as well as possible solutions for them. The suggested approach for analysing the situation is looking at networks, informed by the relevant literature. Some key references of that literature are provided.
