The case discusses in detail the distribution and logistics operations of the US-based PepsiCo, one of the world''s leading beverages and snack foods companies. The case details the distribution system of the company clearly explaining the significance of various distribution channels used including supermarkets/retail stores, fountain/restaurant, convenience stores, vending machines and others for distributing beverages and snack foods. The case also describes the logistics operations of PepsiCo''s bottler (Pepsi Americas) and elaborates on how by employing the latest wireless technology solutions it enhanced the efficiency of its distribution and logistics operations significantly. The case is structured to enable students to: (1) get insights into the distribution operations and the distribution channels utilised by a leading multinational company in the beverage and snack food industry; (2) understand the importance of an efficient distribution and logistics management system in reducing costs and creating value for customers; (3) understand the logistics management techniques of a large multinational company in the beverage and snack food industry; (4) study the significance of mobile communication technologies in improving a company''s logistics management efficiency; and (5) explore the possibility of synchronising diverse operations of a large multinational company with multiple product lines. The case is targeted at MBA/PGDBA students part of operations management curriculum. The teaching note does not contain an analysis of the case.
