Abstract
The case discusses how FedEx Corporation (FedEx) emerged as the leading global provider of supply chain management (SCM) services to corporate customers. The case discusses in detail the SCM services offered by FedEx and its infrastructure facilities that enabled the company to offer these services. The operations at the Memphis hub of FedEx are described in detail. Finally, the case provides real-life examples of how FedEx solved the supply chain problems of Fujitsu (US) and Cisco Systems by offering a customised SCM solution. This case is structured to enable the students to: (1) understand the nature of operations and infrastructure facilities of a leading global third party supply chain management solutions provider; (2) get an insight into the various supply chain management services offered by FedEx; (3) understand how FedEx used IT in managing the supply chain of its customers; and (4) get insights into how FedEx solved supply chain management problems of its corporate customers by offering innovative customised SCM solutions. The case is targeted at MBA/PGDBA students and as part of the operations management curriculum. The teaching note does not contain an analysis of the case.
